Red-bellied Black Snake
The Red-bellied Black Snake is uniformly black with a bright red belly. The tip of its snout is brown. The areas it usually inhabits are moist, such as swamps or river banks. It is one of Australia's most familiar and attractive snakes. It feeds mainly on frogs. Mating occurs in spring, when combat between rival males is common. They are live-bearing with 5-18 young born enclosed in membranes wich they emerge from in minutes.
