Common Brown Snake
The Common Brown Snake has a pale brown iris. The colour of its body can be fairly pale to almost black, with the darker snakes usually having a paler head. Mottled patterns are uncommon but when they are present they are pale, dark or both. Some of the individuals have a banded pattern along their length. The juveniles have a black blotch on their head, a black band across its neck and sometimes prominent bands along its body. They are widespread through the drier parts of Eastern Australia and virtually all places except moist forests and mountains. It is Eastern Australia's commonly encountered large venomous snake. It thrives in agricultural regions and on the edges of most Australian towns and cities. It is extremely, swift, alert, nervous and quick to retaliate if provoked.
DANGEROUSLY VENOMOUS.
