Bardick
It is a short, stout snake, with a broad head very easily spotted from the neck. It has reasonably large eyes for its size. It is an iris brown with a light yellow upper body. Their scales are smooth and are mat-textured in the mid body. They have only one anal scale. Its head is an olive-grey to brown or even a rich red brown colour. They also have white dots on the side of their head and neck. They like to live in mallee scrub with spinifex and heaths but prefer to hide in leaf litter below the ground vegetation. They are diurnal and nocturnal. When encountered they are mainly motionless and close to ground shelter. They give live birth to about 3-14 large sized young. Their diet is mainly frogs and lizards but will also prey on mammals and birds. Their prey is more often than not ambushed from cover.
